Our Story

Home / Our Story

The Sydney Veterans Lodge was formed by a group of veterans and supporters who could see the need to create a place where veterans can go to be amongst comrades and those who truly understand the struggles a returned soldier endures.

In January 2017, a property was secured at Wentworthville for this very cause. Whilst this property was quite dilapidated at the time and requires work, with regular working bees, we have come a long way. Work is almost complete on the cabin, see photos below, however work is yet to start on the main house, so there is still plenty to do.  This journey through this work is as much therapeutic as is our destination, our end goal. Working together as a unit and the bonds that have been formed along the way are fulfilling and life long.

The Sydney Veterans Lodge is supported by a dedicated group that has, right from the get go, donated funds, time and their labour through working bees. These working bees are rewarded at the end of the day with a BBQ, good company and a few cold beers. Many of our supporters have donated materials and fund raising efforts to help us reach our goal; The Grey Gum Cafe, Infidel Social MC, Master Bathrooms & Kitchens, Kass Electrical, A T Plumbworks, Stockwell Building Supplies, Royal Wolf and NSW Asbestos Removal to name a few.  As you can see we have come a quite a way, but still have a long way to go.

The Sydney Veterans Lodge is available 24/7 to all veterans. To gain access to the premises, registration is required. If you are interested in registering with our organisation, contact us via our Contact Form or email sydneyveteranslodge@gmail.com. Please note, we do encourage family evolvement, as to aid the veteran and their family. Whilst the lodge at the moment of this writing, is nowhere near a playground for children, we aim to make this lodge “Family Friendly”, with a goal to hold upon completion,”Family Days”.

We hope this story explains our mission and encourage all who are interested, be Veterans or Supporters, to come down and visit us at the lodge, we will be there on most Saturdays working away, or contact us via our contact page, we would love to hear from you.
